One example:
Experience: The person I am in a relationship with talks to me in an abusive way.
Minimizing thought patterns:
- They were having a bad day…
- But they were drinking…
- It’s not all the time…
The voice of this thought pattern focuses on minimizing. As if you are talking yourself out of your lived experience, minimizing the problem, the impact, or the experience.
–
You might find yourself in a pattern of minimizing if you’re:
- Uncomfortable
- Too comfortable
- Afraid of change
- Don’t want to deal with conflict
- Having difficulty being honest with yourself
