Grief: Journal Prompt 6

Grief is a time that we get clear about the things we need for healing and the other things we absolutely do not need.

For years after my son passed I daily wore a necklace with some of his ashes. One summer my grandmother brashly told me it was time to have another baby so I didn’t have to drag that necklace around anymore.

I knew, I needed less of that.

Alternatively, a coworker who shared a cubicle wall with me the 9 months I was pregnant with Rory sent me small gifts and notes on his birthday for years. She found this game called “Rory’s cubes”; I played the game with my 8-year-old daughter last week to remember him.

My coworker’s kindness, I needed that in my healing.

Prompt: I need more of…
